How to Use Incognito Mode in Google Chrome for Troubleshooting

Incognito Mode allows you to log in to the site with a clean slate--none of the history or cookies are recognized. This helps assess if clearing your cache and cookies will sort out the issues you are experiencing.

Here’s how to use incognito mode in Google Chrome:

1. Open Google Chrome

Launch the Google Chrome browser on your computer.

2. Open Incognito Mode

  • Method 1: Using the Menu

    1. Click on the three vertical dots (⋮) in the top-right corner of the browser window to open the Chrome menu.
    2. Select “New incognito window” from the dropdown menu. A new window will open with a dark theme indicating that you are in incognito mode.
  • Method 2: Using a Keyboard Shortcut

    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + N (on Windows) or Cmd + Shift + N (on Mac) on your keyboard. This shortcut will open a new incognito window immediately.

3. Navigate to the Website

In the incognito window, enter the URL of the website or application you’re having trouble with. This will load the site without using any cached data or cookies from your regular browsing session.

4. Test the Issue

Try to reproduce the issue you were experiencing while in incognito mode. If the problem doesn’t occur in incognito mode, it suggests that the issue might be related to your browser’s cache, cookies, or extensions.

5. Close Incognito Mode

Once you’ve completed your troubleshooting, you can close the incognito window by clicking the X in the top-right corner of the window or by pressing Ctrl + W (on Windows) or Cmd + W (on Mac).

What to Do Next

  • If the Issue Persists: If the problem occurs even in incognito mode, the issue might not be related to your browser’s cache or cookies. Please contact our support team with details about the problem for further assistance.
  • If the Issue is Resolved: If the issue does not occur in incognito mode, clear your browser’s cache and cookies in your regular browsing session, and/or disable browser extensions to identify the source of the problem.
